Making Art Matters

About us

Who We Are and What We Do

At The LivingRoom we believe that EVERYONE is an artist and that when we make art together we change our world for the better, one creation at a time.

The LivingRoom Community Art Studio is a registered not-for-profit that provides supportive opportunities for individuals and families living in and around Central Oshawa to express themselves and connect with others through experiences of art making, skill sharing and dialogue. Studio services are offered at no, or low cost in order to ensure that all members of the community - including those who are most marginalized - can take part. The studio's mission is to promote positive self-identities, strengthen and build relationships, and inspire community driven action through providing an inclusive, non-judgemental space for meaningful creative social interaction to occur.

At The LivingRoom we believe that EVERYONE is an artist and that when we make art together we change our world for the better, one creation at a time. We believe that the processes involved in creative self-expression are inherently therapeutic and ultimately empowering for people and the neighbourhoods in which they live. At our storefront studio we offer:

  • free open studio art making time
  • a range of no or low cost workshops
  • low commission community art exhibits and sales
  • a one of a kind Art Shop where our community can sell their art and handicraft on consignment
  • opportunities for vulnerable populations to book closed studio time with a studio facilitator

Our regular hours of operation are Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11am until 6pm and Sundays from 12pm to 4pm - but from time time workshops and special events may occur outside of regular operating hours. Please see our Calendar Page and follow us on Facebook and Twitter to learn more about all of our upcoming events and activities!

We're always looking for new and interesting opportunities to connect with our community so that we can learn how to serve your needs better. If you would like to learm more about us and how we can support the work you are doing with community please contact us at info@livingroomcommunityartstudio.org and let us know!
